Tour Details

We leave Volubilis behind to drive alongside the dark, outlaying ridges of the Zerhoun Hills to stop for a visit of the town of Moulay Idriss, the holiest Islamic town in the kingdom of Morocco. Arriving at the elongated square we see above us the green-tiled pyramids of the Zaouia with its two conical quarters on both side and stroll amidst the labyrinth of alleyways.

Itinerary

One DayMekenes & Volubilis

Pick up at 8am from your hotel in Fes, we drive across the Saiss Plain to the wonderful Roman ruins at Volubilis, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. Here we will see, incredible mosaics, monumental arches and Corinthian columns, you will experience a real sense of Roman lifestyle and that of a subsequent medieval Berber town.

We leave Volubilis behind to drive alongside the dark, outlaying ridges of the Zerhoun Hills to stop for a visit of the town of Moulay Idriss, the holiest Islamic town in the kingdom of Morocco. Arriving at the elongated square we see above us the green-tiled pyramids of the Zaouia with its two conical quarters on both side and stroll amidst the labyrinth of alleyways.

We continue our trip heading for Meknes, the smallest of the Imperial cities. We begin our visit entering the city via the Impressive Bab Mansour Gate, and head to the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, the final resting place of the sultan who made Meknes his capital in the 17th century. (appropriate clothing needed). We’ll then visit the most important monument of this Imperial city: the Heri es Souani stables and granaries, whose walls are made of clay, pebbles and straw. Finally we’ll enter the heart of the medina visiting El-Hedim Square and Meknes’ market and souks.
